This dive site is an active coral nursery, specifically designed to foster the growth of new coral fragments. Located just a few minutes by boat from the local dive shop, it features self-made 'trees' constructed from PVC pipes, to which coral fragments are meticulously attached using fishing line. These structures serve as a growing artificial reef, providing a unique insight into marine conservation efforts and the delicate process of coral restoration. Divers can navigate around these 'trees', observing the early stages of a developing reef ecosystem.
The nascent artificial reef attracts a variety of marine life. Commonly spotted residents include the charming trunkfish and the distinctive short nose pufferfish, which have made the PVC structures their new home. Divers will also see numerous coral fragments, representing various species, in different stages of growth as part of the restoration project.
The Coral Nursery is an excellent dive site for those interested in marine conservation and learning about coral ecosystems. Visitors can inquire at the dive center about current coral restoration projects or even get certified in Coral ID. The shallow average depth of 8 meters makes it ideal for beginners and a great spot for extended bottom times. It is suitable for snorkeling and freediving, offering a unique educational experience year-round, typically with calm conditions and good visibility.
