This dive site is the Barco das Telhas, a fascinating shipwreck located off the coast of Portugal. It is the submerged remains of a small transport vessel, uniquely named "Barco das Telhas" (Tile Boat) because its cargo consisted of tile remains. The wreck lies on a generally flat seabed, punctuated by gentle slopes and scattered rocky areas. While the maximum recreational depth for diving here is 31 meters, the wreck itself is situated in deeper waters, sometimes reaching 55 to 65 meters depending on tidal conditions, making it an advanced dive.
The Barco das Telhas is a vibrant habitat for diverse small marine life. Divers can expect to encounter an array of nudibranchs, colorful anemones, delicate soft corals, and various sponges. The site is also home to schooling anthias, adding flashes of color to the wreck's structure.
No specific best time to visit is provided, but like many wreck sites, calm seas offer the best conditions. This site is exclusively recommended for expert divers due to its depth and the technical challenges associated with deep wreck diving. Freedivers and snorkelers are not suited for this deep and advanced location.
