This dive site, Isla Coco, is located off the northeastern coast of Isla Coiba in Panama. It derives its name from a lone coconut tree adorning its small beach. Primarily known for its crystal-clear, shallow waters, it offers a tranquil and picturesque setting for underwater exploration, perfect for easy navigation around its rocky and coral-covered areas.
The vibrant marine ecosystem at Isla Coco is characterized by extensive hard coral formations that colonize the rocky underwater landscape. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter graceful hawksbill sea turtles foraging amongst the reef, alongside a large diversity of colorful reef fish, making for an engaging visual experience.
The best time to visit Isla Coco, similar to much of Panama's Pacific coast, is during the dry season from December to April, when water conditions are typically calm with peak visibility. Given its maximum depth of just 6 meters and clear conditions, this site is exceptionally well-suited for snorkelers and freedivers looking to experience a rich marine environment without the need for extensive scuba gear.
