This dive site, Bajo Piñon, is situated in the Canales de Afuera area, adjacent to Isla Afuerita. Divers begin their adventure by locating a distinct rock on the surface, marking the entry to two unique rock formations. The site transitions from a relatively shallow initial area to a deeper, more challenging bottom, offering varied topography and navigation opportunities through these structures.
The vibrant marine ecosystem at Bajo Piñon is home to a rich array of life. Divers can expect encounters with turtles, white tip reef sharks, and a multitude of colorful reef fish. For underwater photographers, the site is particularly rewarding for macro photography, with an abundance of small creatures thriving on the top of the reef.
The best time to visit Bajo Piñon and the Coiba National Park region for optimal diving conditions, including better visibility, is generally during the dry season, from December to May. Its combination of shallow and deeper sections makes it suitable for both experienced divers looking for a challenge and freedivers, while snorkelers can enjoy the vibrant shallow reef areas.
