This dive site is situated at a former ferry port, directly opposite the Zoetersbout dive site in the Netherlands. Once a bustling hub for ferries between Anna-Jacobapolder and Zijpe, the area now hosts an oyster farm nestled between the main dams. Divers can explore the remnants of the old port structures and the habitat created by the oyster farm, which provides shelter and food for various marine species, offering an interesting, if somewhat artificial, underwater landscape.
The diverse marine life at Anna Jacobapolder is a significant draw, particularly for macro enthusiasts. Divers frequently encounter North Sea crabs, lobsters, brittle stars, and slender spider crabs. The sandy and silty bottoms are home to flatfish, while tube worms adorn available surfaces. Sepia are also a common and fascinating sight, adding to the site's appeal for underwater photographers.
While no specific 'best time to visit' is provided, diving in the Netherlands generally means colder water, so appropriate dry suit gear is recommended. The site's shallow nature makes it excellent for extended bottom times to observe the rich macro life. It's a great spot for beginner divers and freedivers due to its manageable depths and generally mild currents, focusing on observation and macro photography rather than dramatic landscapes or large pelagic encounters.
