This dive site, Chileno Bay, is a highly popular and easily accessible snorkeling and diving location in the Cabo San Lucas area. Divers navigate through spectacular underwater scenery characterized by rocky outcrops, sand gullies between vertical rock walls, large boulders, and fascinating overhangs, primarily located to the south of the beach. Its shallow depths make it a relaxed and straightforward dive, ideal for exploration without complex navigation.
The marine life at Chileno Bay is varied and often abundant. Extensive areas are covered in corals, providing a rich habitat, although the corals are not generally in brilliant colors. Divers can easily observe a range of fascinating fish, including the distinctive porcupinefish, curious pufferfish, and unique boxfish, among many other reef inhabitants.
Chileno Bay is a year-round destination, with the best time to visit typically during the dry season from November to May for optimal weather and calm conditions, although it's popular year-round. Its shallow profile makes it an excellent choice for beginner divers to gain confidence and for underwater photographers interested in capturing varied reef life. Freedivers will particularly enjoy the excellent visibility and diverse topography for extended breath-hold explorations.
