This dive site, known as Runway, derives its name from its proximity to an established seaplane runway. It offers an easy and beautiful dive along a gentle coral slope, making it ideal for divers of all experience levels. The navigation is straightforward, following the reef from its shallow top at 2 meters down to approximately 18 meters, where it merges with an interesting sandy bottom.
The site is teeming with diverse marine life. The coral slope is home to a variety of reef fish and vibrant corals. The highlight, however, is the sandy bottom, which is a prime location to spot different types of stingrays and the elusive guitar rays, making for exciting encounters with larger benthic creatures.
The Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, and Runway is no exception. This site is particularly well-suited for beginners due to its gentle profile and manageable depth. Snorkelers can enjoy the vibrant shallow reef top, while freedivers will find the moderate depths and abundant marine life appealing for breath-hold explorations. Divers should pay attention to the sandy bottom for unique ray sightings.
