This dive site, Reethi Thila, meaning 'The Beautiful', is a renowned small pinnacle located within a Maldivian atoll, northeast of Asdhdoo Island, a short boat ride from Joy Island. Divers can circumnavigate this thila in approximately an hour, exploring its distinct top reef and impressive walls. The top reef starts at a shallow 3 meters, making it easily accessible, while the surrounding walls drop off significantly, creating a dynamic underwater topography.
The site is teeming with diverse marine life. The vibrant walls are home to huge black corals, where elegant Longnose Hawks Fish can be spotted. Other inhabitants include fascinating creatures like Stonefish, Nudibranchs, Mantis shrimp, and various Moray Eels hiding in crevices. The top reef is a feeding ground for turtles, and schools of Batfish and Bannerfish are commonly observed throughout the dive site.
Reethi Thila is best enjoyed during the calmer seasons, offering excellent visibility. Its shallow top reef makes it ideal for snorkelers and beginner divers, while the deeper walls provide more exploration for intermediate divers. Freedivers will appreciate the varied depth profile. The abundance of both macro and larger reef life makes it a rewarding site for underwater photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
