This dive site is situated on the outer reef of Medhufushi Island in the Maldives. It features an endless elongated faru, with its reef top adorned with coral blocks. The site boasts a dramatic drop-off that descends significantly deeper than recreational limits, offering a wall diving experience, although the main focus for diving remains within shallower to mid-range depths.
Divers can anticipate a rich variety of marine life. The shallower waters, between 5 and 12 meters, are home to numerous sea turtles and large schools of long-nosed surgeonfish. Along the steep outer reef, from 12 to 33 meters, common sightings include white-tip reef sharks, barracudas, and active hunting tuna, indicating a thriving pelagic environment.
The best time to experience the Medhu Outside dive site is generally during the Maldives' dry season (December to May) for optimal conditions and visibility, though it offers rewarding dives throughout the year. It is an excellent location for wide-angle photography due to its large marine inhabitants and dramatic topography. Both scuba divers and freedivers can explore its diverse depths, with freedivers enjoying the vibrant shallow reef and upper sections of the wall.
