This dive site is known as Mas Thila, meaning “fish pinnacle” in Divehi, and truly lives up to its name. Located just in the backdrop of Kandu Thila, the site features a reef top at 8 meters which gently slopes down to depths of around 30 meters, though the typical maximum diving depth for the site is 21 meters. Divers typically navigate by exploring the vibrant reef structure, which forms an underwater pinnacle.
The waters of Mas Thila teem with a remarkable array of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter impressive schools of pelagic species such as tunas and large barracudas, a true highlight for big fish enthusiasts. Additionally, the reef is home to vast schools of fusiliers, snappers, and banner fish, creating a dynamic and colorful underwater spectacle.
The best time to visit Mas Thila, like much of the Maldives, is during the dry season from December to May, offering optimal visibility and calmer surface conditions. However, conditions can be excellent year-round. Given the potential for currents which attract large pelagics, divers should be comfortable with moderate to variable currents. The shallow reef top makes it suitable for snorkelers, and its depth profile is also appealing for freedivers seeking vibrant marine encounters.
