This dive site, Kudathulhaadhoo Thila, is a substantial 300m long and 80m wide reef located in the Maldives, considered a must-dive location. Divers will find the west side of the reef gradually sloping from 14 to 18 meters before dropping steeply to 30 meters. A prominent large block is situated in front of the reef, starting at 28 meters. The southwest side is particularly notable for its vibrant, colorful overhangs, offering interesting topographical features for exploration.
The thila is teeming with diverse marine life, including large groupers, Napoleon wrasse, and grey reef sharks. Lucky divers might also encounter nurse sharks. Turtles are often spotted, along with smaller creatures like lobsters, long-nosed hawkfish, and various small shrimp. The reef itself boasts beautiful soft corals and an impressive field of gorgonian corals, contributing to a rich and colorful underwater ecosystem.
Given the strong currents explicitly mentioned, this site is best enjoyed by experienced divers who can handle challenging conditions, making it an excellent drift dive. The rich marine biodiversity and stunning coral formations, especially the gorgonian field and colorful overhangs, ensure a rewarding experience. While specific seasonal best times aren't provided, the Maldives generally offers excellent diving year-round. Due to its depths and strong currents, it is not recommended for snorkeling or beginner freedivers.
