This dive site, Joy Outside, is situated just a 10-minute boat ride from Joy, positioned on the exterior of Kassan Faru, also known as Joy Reef. The dive begins in a vibrant shallow section at approximately 4 meters, making it ideal for an easy entry and extended bottom time. From there, a gentle slope descends, eventually leading to a short plateau around 30 meters deep, though the primary focus for most dives up to 12m is the shallower reef top and slope. There's no specific historical narrative provided, but its name suggests its proximity to the 'Joy' resort or island.
The reef and slope teem with marine activity. Divers can expect to encounter numerous red tooth Triggerfish and various species of Surgeonfish schooling among the corals. Larger pelagic species are also present, with sightings of White Tip Reef Sharks, Batfish, and different types of rays being common occurrences, adding to the excitement of the dive.
The Maldives generally offers excellent diving year-round, with specific seasons influencing pelagic sightings. Given the site's rich shallow areas, it is particularly suitable for both divers and freedivers seeking abundant marine life without significant depth requirements. Snorkelers will also find the vibrant reef top highly rewarding. To best enjoy the site, a morning dive is often recommended for optimal light and activity, especially between December and May for potential peak pelagic encounters.
