This dive site, Tanjung Tokong, is a prominent pinnacle located off the northernmost point of Redang Island, situated along a ridge. Divers typically commence their descent from the East of Cagar Hutang Bay, where the depth is a comfortable 5-7 meters. From this entry point, the site gently slopes towards greater depths, reaching up to 30 meters, although the primary diving area is shallower. Due to its exposed position, divers should be prepared for strong currents that can make for an exciting drift dive, guiding them along the impressive underwater topography of the pinnacle and rocky outcrops.
The strong currents at Tanjung Tokong are a major draw, attracting a rich diversity of marine life. Schools of Barracuda and Fusiliers are frequent sights, often seen in the blue. A solitary Napoleon Wrasse is known to inhabit the area, adding to the spectacle of larger fish. Moray eels, groupers, and various other colorful reef fishes find shelter and hunting grounds within the numerous rocky outcrops and crevices that characterize the site's landscape.
The best time to visit Redang Island for diving is generally between March and October, outside of the monsoon season, when conditions are most favorable. While the shallower areas of Tanjung Tokong are suitable for snorkeling and freediving, particularly from the 5-7 meter entry point, both divers and freedivers should exercise caution and be mindful of the potentially strong currents. This site is highly recommended for those seeking vibrant pelagic encounters and a dynamic diving experience.
