This dive site, Pulau Serenggeh (sometimes spelled Seringi), is a popular spot located just 3.2 nautical miles from Perhentian Kecil. It starts as a vibrant shallow reef, well-known for snorkeling, before gradually sloping away to reveal an interesting wall dive. Underwater navigation is straightforward, transitioning from the sunlit reef to the more structured wall, offering varied topography for exploration.
The marine ecosystem here is thriving, with a particular highlight on smaller creatures. Divers can easily spot eels and various shrimps nestled within the wall's crevices, including numerous cleaner shrimps and dancing shrimps. The shallow reef areas are home to a diverse population of groupers and other colorful reef fishes, mingling among the corals.
The best time to visit Pulau Serenggeh generally aligns with the Perhentian Islands' dry season, typically from March to October, which offers the best visibility and calmest conditions. Its accessible depths and varied environment make it suitable for both beginner divers and snorkelers. Freedivers will also find the site appealing due to the clear waters and the manageable maximum depth of 16 meters, allowing for extended breath-hold exploration.
