This dive site, known as Batu Kapal or Ship Rock, is characterized by its unique twin-pinnacle underwater formation. The pinnacles rise from a base at 18 meters, with their tips reaching between 8 to 10 meters, making it a multi-level and accessible site. Due to its compact size, Batu Kapal is often explored in conjunction with the nearby Shark Point, offering a varied dive experience within a single outing.
The pinnacles are richly adorned with vibrant whip corals, creating a beautiful underwater tapestry. Divers can expect to encounter unique macro life such as the cryptic Indian Sea Walkers dwelling near the bottom. During night dives, a particularly interesting highlight is the opportunity to hear and spot the croaking toadfish, adding an auditory dimension to the underwater exploration.
The best time to visit Batu Kapal aligns with the dry season of the Perhentian Islands, typically from May to September, when sea conditions are calm and visibility is excellent. This site is suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, with its shallow pinnacle tips ideal for breath-hold diving. For photographers, the abundant whip corals and specific macro inhabitants make it a rewarding location for close-up shots, especially the nocturnal toadfish.
