This dive site, Teluk Gadong, is situated on the east side of Perhentian Besar and is characterized by a shallow, sandy seabed. Access is exclusively by boat, making it a serene and protected spot. Its calm, forgiving environment and easy navigation make it exceptionally suitable for entry-level diving courses and training, providing a safe introduction to the underwater world.
The sandy bottom, though seemingly barren, is surprisingly rich in specific marine life. Divers can expect to find various common sandy bottom feeders such as flounders expertly camouflaged against the substrate, and different species of rays gliding gracefully. The site also hosts fascinating critter life, including the unique Indian Sea Walkers and several species of Scorpionfish, offering excellent opportunities for macro photography.
The best time to explore Teluk Gadong, and the Perhentian Islands in general, is typically from April to October, when the seas are calm and visibility is at its best. This site's shallow depth and gentle conditions make it a prime location for both snorkelers and freedivers, allowing for extended surface or breath-hold exploration. Divers should bring a keen eye for finding hidden critters on the sandy expanse.
