This dive site, Batu Berendam, meaning 'submerged rock', is one of the deepest dive sites in the Perhentian Islands, located northwest of Tanjung Basi. It is characterized by a massive cluster of underwater boulders, with its highest points around 15-18 meters, descending to depths of 22 meters, although the surrounding area can reach over 30 meters. Divers navigate through intriguing channels formed between these impressive rock structures.
The landscape is adorned with vibrant whip corals decorating the boulders and large sea fans thriving in the channels. The site is known for its pelagic life, with occasional sightings of Cobia and schools of Fusiliers. Trevallies are also frequently observed hunting in schools, adding to the dynamic underwater spectacle.
Batu Berendam is best visited during the dry season (typically March to October) when conditions are generally calmer, although strong currents and prominent thermoclines can be encountered. Due to the challenging currents and depth, this site is recommended for advanced divers seeking thrilling encounters with pelagic species. Freedivers may find the strong currents and depth less suitable for casual exploration.
