This dive site, known as Sunabe - Birdcage Mushroom (Torikago-Mushroom), is located near the Water Purification Plant Mae in Chatan, Okinawa, Japan. It gets its unique name from a distinctive birdcage- or mushroom-shaped seawater intake structure, which serves as the central point of interest and an easy navigation landmark underwater. Accessible directly from the beach, this shallow site is ideal for divers of all experience levels.
The Birdcage Mushroom site is surrounded by vibrant soft corals, creating a rich habitat for a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to see schools of barracuda, butterflyfish, and spoonbills. Other common residents include durgon cod, charming clown fish, occasional spiny dogfish, various crustaceans, and shy gobies, all contributing to the abundant biodiversity of small fish in the area.
