This dive site, Aosango, located on Okinawa's east coast, is a world-class heritage area renowned for its colossal "Blue Coral" formation, which is at least twice the size of a tennis court. This unique landmark, surrounded by a diverse array of hard corals, serves as the central feature, making underwater navigation straightforward by following its perimeter and the reef structures. The site offers a truly exceptional diving experience with its pristine conditions and vibrant ecosystem.
The marine life at Aosango is abundant and varied, providing numerous encounters for divers. You can expect to see graceful Hawksbill Turtles and the distinctive Banded Sea Snakes. Schools of Yellowfin Goatfish and Striped Large-eye Bream are commonly observed, alongside a rich diversity of other reef fish. The site's extensive hard coral formations, particularly the impressive Blue Coral, create a thriving habitat for a myriad of smaller creatures and invertebrates.
Aosango is an excellent dive site to visit year-round, though the warmer months typically offer the most comfortable conditions and highest chances of calm seas. Its shallow depth range (5-14 meters) and outstanding visibility of over 30 meters make it perfect for all levels of divers, including beginners. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find the site incredibly rewarding due to the accessible depths and the magnificent, shallow-lying Blue Coral and other reef formations.
