This dive site, Amiyoko, located in Kuki Town, Mie, Japan, is a popular and rarely closed destination due to its inland sea location. Reaching a maximum depth of 23 meters with an average of 11 meters, it offers a relatively calm environment. The underwater topography features a sandy bottom that splits into distinct sand and gorota (rocky) zones at approximately 16 meters, providing diverse habitats for marine life.
Amiyoko boasts a rich array of marine animals, particularly noted for its abundant small critters. Divers can expect to encounter numerous nudibranchs, crustaceans, sea slugs, and glass gobies. The site is also home to gobies, tench, giant frogfish, scorpionfish, clownfish, and leaf scorpionfish. Larger inhabitants include bumpheads and both green and yellowfin turtles, contributing to a vibrant ecosystem from tiny macro subjects to bigger fish.
As an inland sea site, Amiyoko is rarely affected by adverse weather, making it suitable for diving almost year-round. Its diverse marine life, especially the macro subjects and turtles, makes it a highlight for underwater photographers and marine enthusiasts. Both snorkelers and freedivers will find the site enjoyable due to its moderate depths and calm conditions, offering excellent opportunities for observing its rich biodiversity close to the surface and within comfortable freediving limits.
