This dive site, known as Grimaldo Rock, is an outcropping pinnacle located just a few tens of meters from the Italian coast, near the renowned 5 Terre protected area. Reached by boat in approximately 35 minutes, the site offers easy navigation around the rock formation, starting from an average depth of 10 meters and descending to a maximum of 20 meters. Its sheltered position close to shore makes it an approachable and enjoyable dive for various skill levels.
The site boasts a rich diversity of marine life, particularly vibrant invertebrates such as colorful crinoids, parazoantus, encrusting sponges, elegant spirographs, and delicate cerianthus. Macro enthusiasts will also be delighted by the presence of various nudibranch species. Larger encounters can include common Mediterranean residents like groupers, bream, barracuda, inquisitive octopuses, and schools of snappers.
The best time to visit Scoglio Grimaldo is typically during the warmer months from late spring to early autumn (May to October), when water temperatures are more comfortable and marine activity is at its peak. This site is highly recommended for beginner divers due to its shallow depths and protected nature. It is also suitable for freedivers and snorkelers, offering plenty to explore in the upper water column and around the pinnacle.
