This dive site is the wreck of the MV Equa, located two miles off the coast of Riomaggiore, Italy. It's a 25-minute boat ride from the shore to reach the wreck, which lies at a maximum depth of 36 meters. Divers can explore the wreck itself, navigating through various sections and compartments, depending on their experience level and the prevailing conditions. The wreck is relatively intact, providing plenty of structure and crevices to explore.
The MV Equa wreck is teeming with marine life. Divers can expect to see large colonies of jewel anemones, vibrant sponges, and numerous oysters clinging to the wreck’s structure. Lobsters often hide within the crevices, and schools of Mediterranean chromis dart through the surrounding waters. The surrounding seabed may also offer other discoveries.
The best time to visit is during the summer months (June-September) when the water is warmer and visibility is generally at its best. However, even outside of the peak season, the site can offer rewarding dives. It is crucial for divers to check the weather forecast and sea conditions before embarking on a dive, especially as conditions can be affected by the sea currents and weather patterns of the Ligurian Sea. Divers should also maintain a safe distance from the wreck's structure and exercise caution to avoid any potential hazards. This dive is not suitable for snorkeling or freediving due to the depth.
