This dive site features two very distinctive wrecks, identified as port ships that served as locks in the port of Genoa. These wrecks are silhouetted together and are located not far apart, with a maximum depth of 31 meters and an average depth of approximately 15 meters. The site has transformed into a thriving underwater oasis.
Beneath the surface, the wrecks teem with an abundance of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter numerous species of nudibranchs, including colorful flabellines and striking yellow and green dorids. The wreck structures are also adorned with many beautiful white gorgonians, providing a vibrant backdrop for the diverse smaller marine inhabitants and various reef fish and crustaceans that have made this artificial reef their home.
The best time to visit Relitto Sarchiapone is typically from Spring to Autumn when water temperatures are warmer and visibility is generally better in the Mediterranean. This site is particularly recommended for macro photographers due to the exceptional variety of nudibranchs. Freedivers can also enjoy exploring the shallower sections of the wrecks, offering a unique breath-hold diving experience.
