This dive site, Punta Pizzaco in Italy, offers a fascinating wall dive experience. Divers typically begin at a shallow baiette around 5 meters and follow the wall down, choosing either a right or left shoulder wall descent. The dive can be conducted from the Pizzaco II point. Navigation involves staying oriented to the wall to avoid getting lost in the sloping terrain that descends to depths well beyond the 27-meter maximum depth of this particular dive.
The marine life is rich and varied, including octopus, moray eels, and needlefish among the rocks and posidonia oceanica seagrass at shallower depths (10-15 meters). Further down (15-20 meters), yellow gorgonians add color to the scene, while deeper still (25-35 meters) red gorgonians and even red coral at 45 meters are a highlight. Hermit crabs are also frequently seen in the rocky areas.
The best time to visit Punta Pizzaco is likely during the warmer months (spring/summer/early autumn) when water temperatures are more comfortable, visibility is generally better, and marine life is more active. Divers and freedivers should be aware of potential currents, especially at depth, and maintain good buoyancy control to avoid disturbing the delicate gorgonians and coral. Proper planning and experience are recommended for this dive.
