About this dive site

This dive site is the iconic USS Liberty Wreck, Bali's most famous dive site located just 30 meters from Tulamben shore. The wreck lies between 5 and 30 meters deep, making it accessible to divers of all levels. Originally a US Army cargo ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942, it was beached at Tulamben. An eruption of Mount Agung in 1963 pushed it back into the sea, where it broke apart and now forms an impressive artificial reef.

The wreck is heavily encrusted with a vibrant array of soft and hard corals, along with numerous sea anemones, transforming it into a living ecosystem. It hosts countless reef fish, including parrotfish, fusiliers, surgeonfish, and various triggerfish. Macro life thrives here, with nudibranchs, crabs, and shrimp hiding among the structures. Larger visitors like barracudas, jacks, and occasionally reef sharks are also spotted.

The USS Liberty Wreck is suitable for diving year-round, with the dry season (April to October) generally offering the best conditions. Its varied depth range and mild currents make it perfect for beginners, experienced divers, snorkelers, and freedivers alike. Night dives are highly recommended to observe nocturnal marine life. Due to its popularity, early morning dives are ideal to avoid crowds and experience the wreck in tranquility.
