About this dive site

This dive site around Gili Trawangan, the largest of the three Gili Islands, is renowned as one of Southeast Asia's premier snorkeling destinations. Characterized by shallow, crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs close to white-sand beaches, it offers easy navigation, making it ideal for relaxed underwater exploration right from the shore. The focus here is on accessible reef ecosystems rather than complex navigation.

The star attraction in these waters is undoubtedly the sea turtles, with excellent opportunities for turtle-watching. The coral reefs teem with diverse reef fish species, providing a rich display of small marine life. Common Indo-Pacific reef inhabitants like various types of anemonefish, parrotfish, damselfish, and a variety of hard and soft corals can be observed.

The Gili Islands offer excellent conditions year-round, though the dry season (May to September) typically provides the calmest waters and best visibility. This site is particularly recommended for snorkelers and beginner divers due to its shallow depths and calm environment. Freedivers will also find the clear, shallow waters perfect for practice and enjoying the abundant marine life at a relaxed pace.
