This dive site, the Ebendorf Quarry, is a former open-cast mining operation active until 1914, now a freshwater dive site located directly at the entrance to Ebendorf, Germany. The quarry itself measures 110 meters long and 80 meters wide, with a total water depth of 22 meters, although the maximum recommended diving depth for recreational purposes is 11 meters. Access is notably easy, facilitated by a dedicated staircase and a footbridge, making it convenient for divers of all experience levels seeking calm, inland diving.
Divers at Ebendorf Quarry can expect to encounter a variety of freshwater fish species characteristic of European lakes and quarries. Common observations include carp, tench, crucian carp, and pike. Notably, a catfish has also been observed in these waters, adding to the diversity of aquatic life.
As a local quarry, the Ebendorf site is suitable for diving year-round, depending on local weather conditions and water temperature, which can be quite cold, especially outside of summer months. It serves as an excellent location for dive training, equipment testing, and leisure dives for those interested in freshwater environments. Freedivers will find the manageable depth and easy access appealing for breath-hold practice.
