This dive site, Jet de la Rose, is celebrated as one of the most beautiful along the Roc de Chère, a dramatic 2km long cliff system that descends into Lake Annecy between Menthon and Talloires. It offers a varied underwater topography, from shallow, lush characeous weed beds to a magnificent drop-off that plunges beyond recreational limits for experienced divers. While the site's stated maximum recreational depth is 20 meters, adventurous experienced divers can explore the deeper parts of the drop-off extending to -47 meters.
The marine life here is diverse for a freshwater lake. The shallow weed beds are home to active perch and pike, easily observed. Deeper, near the base of the drop-off, burbot can be found. Sediment zones reveal two distinct types of crayfish, including smaller species, making it an excellent spot for macro photography and observing smaller aquatic life.
Jet de la Rose is suitable for both snorkeling and freediving in its shallower sections, offering clear views of the weed beds and fish. Scuba divers of intermediate level can enjoy the 20-meter profile, while advanced divers can explore the deeper drop-off. The best time to visit is typically during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn, when water temperatures are more comfortable and aquatic life is generally more active. Always be mindful of boat traffic on the lake surface.
