This dive site, located at the foot of the Château de Duingt in France, offers a unique freshwater diving experience. Divers launch from steps near a landing stage directly into Lake Annecy, immersing themselves into a world beneath the historic château. The site is characterized by a magnificent, fairly smooth drop-off, making navigation straightforward along the wall that plunges into the depths. While the main dive is around 26 meters, experienced divers can explore further towards the middle of the lake, reaching depths of up to 45 meters.
The underwater environment is home to various freshwater species. Divers can expect to encounter many common perch and crayfish, thriving amidst the submerged landscape. A notable feature is the presence of trees submerged at the bottom, adding an eerie and picturesque element to the dive. Due to the site's topology, which is primarily a drop-off with limited plant life, there are very few herbivores to be found.
The Château de Duingt dive site is suitable for all levels, with shallower areas appealing to beginners and the deeper drop-off attracting advanced divers and freedivers seeking depth. Visibility can often be good, enhancing the appreciation of the underwater scenery and marine life. This site is best visited during warmer months for more comfortable conditions, though it offers interesting diving year-round for those prepared for colder freshwater temperatures.
