The dive site 'Ile du Planier - Epave du Dalton' offers a unique opportunity to explore a historical cargo ship wreck. Located on Planier Island, which is part of a national park and notably distant from the coastline, this area is marked by a prominent lighthouse, a distinctive silhouette on the horizon. The Dalton, a cargo ship built in 1877, sank in 1928 and now rests between 15 and 33 meters deep.
Measuring approximately 70.5 meters long, the wreck has suffered significant degradation over time, with superstructures largely collapsed, yet sections remain relatively intact. The bow faces the island, and as you move towards the stern, recognizable features like the central section, machinery such as boilers, and portions of the bridge become visible. The railing has held up reasonably well, and at 33 meters, the propeller and rudder are prominent elements. Access to the aft hold is possible without difficulty. Diving here is best in calm seas and light winds, navigating rocky scree conditions, and offers a captivating experience in an area known for its shipwrecks and underwater discovery.
