This dive site, Shaab Sataya, is renowned as one of the largest reefs in the Red Sea, stretching approximately 5 kilometers. Its eastern lagoon is a haven for spinner dolphins, while the southern part boasts a stunning shallow plateau teeming with hard corals before descending into a gentle drop-off. The site's popularity stems from its accessibility and rich biodiversity, making it a favorite for divers of all skill levels.
The vibrant coral gardens of Shaab Sataya support a vast array of marine life. Divers can encounter spinner dolphins, blue spotted stingrays, anthias, scorpionfish, whitetip reef sharks, clownfish (Nemo), various slugs, lionfish, and moray eels. The abundant fish life and healthy coral formations make it ideal for both macro and wide-angle photography.
The best time to visit Shaab Sataya is during the warmer months (April to October), when water temperatures are pleasant and visibility is typically excellent. For freediving, the calm conditions and shallow plateau provide an ideal environment, though attention should be paid to the depth and always dive within your limits. Divers should be aware of potential mild currents and maintain appropriate buoyancy to avoid damaging the delicate coral.
