This dive site, Ras Um Sid, also known as El Fanar Beach, is a renowned shore-accessed reef located just south of Na’ama Bay in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Divers and snorkelers can easily enter from the beach, navigating first over a shallow reef flat (around 1 meter deep) teeming with life. This flat transitions into a dramatic and spectacular reef drop-off, which plunges to a maximum depth of 20 meters, offering an impressive vertical wall dive experience.
The vibrant reef is home to a rich variety of Red Sea marine life. The reef flat is notably colonized by dozens of giant clams. Along the coral wall and within the reef structure, divers can encounter numerous clownfish, colorful angelfish, several species of graceful butterflyfish, and large shoals of sparkling sea goldie. The site boasts an exceptional coral wall, indicating healthy and diverse coral formations.
Ras Um Sid is suitable for diving and snorkeling year-round, with the Red Sea generally offering warm waters and excellent visibility. It is particularly ideal for snorkelers and beginner divers due to its easy shore access and shallow reef flat. More experienced divers can explore the stunning reef drop-off, making it a versatile site. Freedivers will also appreciate the accessible depths and rich marine environment.
