This dive site is the Million Hope, a massive cargo wreck that has rested in Nabq Bay, Egypt, since its sinking in 1996. As one of the largest wrecks in the Red Sea, it offers extensive exploration over multiple dives. Divers can navigate around the vast superstructure, cargo holds, and specifically explore a prominent crane. Its sheer size means there’s always something new to discover on return visits, providing a diverse underwater experience.
The wreck has become a vibrant artificial reef, teeming with marine life. Divers can expect to encounter numerous species of nudibranchs, adding a splash of color to the wreck's structure. Schools of glassfish inhabit sheltered areas, particularly around the crane. Other residents include well-camouflaged crocodile fish and various pipefishes, all thriving in the protected nooks and crannies provided by the sunken vessel.
The Million Hope is best visited during the generally warm and clear water conditions of the Red Sea, typically from spring to autumn for optimal visibility and comfort. Its moderate depth profile makes it an excellent site for divers of all levels, especially those keen on wreck exploration and macro photography. Freedivers will also find the average depth of 11 meters and the distinct structure suitable for breath-hold diving and observation of the upper sections.
