This dive site, known as Jackfish Alley and also referred to as Fisherman’s Bank with Stingray Alley, is a comparatively shallow and popular spot in the Egyptian Red Sea. It is particularly famed for its two enormous caves that offer unique exploration opportunities. Divers typically navigate through these captivating caverns, encountering shoals of glassfish, making it an excellent choice for a second or third dive due to its manageable depth and rewarding features.
The marine life at Jackfish Alley is abundant and diverse. It lives up to its name with plentiful jackfish, and divers can witness the biggest barracuda-cleaning station, providing excellent chances for encounters with larger pelagic species. Inside the caves, mesmerizing shoals of glassfish create a vibrant display, while the presence of stingrays, alluded to by one of its alternative names, further enhances the richness of the underwater ecosystem, alongside various corals.
The site is best visited during the generally favorable diving conditions of the Red Sea, with spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) often considered optimal for milder temperatures and excellent visibility. Highlights include wide-angle photography opportunities with the large schools of fish and barracudas, as well as the unique experience of exploring the illuminated caverns. Both snorkelers and freedivers will find the shallower depths and cave entries appealing for breath-hold exploration.
