This dive site, known as Green Hole ED, is a unique shore dive experience located in Egypt's Red Sea. Divers typically access the site via minibus, entering the water through a distinctive large hole in the reef top. From there, the dive progresses into an exciting canyon, navigating between impressive coral gardens and partly rugged reef slopes. A rope is conveniently installed to assist divers with both entry and exit, making the initial phase more manageable.
The Green Hole ED is celebrated for its vibrant marine biodiversity. Divers can expect to encounter a wealth of soft corals, providing a colorful backdrop for a variety of reef fish such as angelfish and butterflyfish. Keep an eye out for interesting macro life including scorpionfish, crabs, and nudibranchs. Lucky encounters with larger pelagic species like eagle rays are also possible.
The Red Sea generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with prime visibility and warm waters. The Green Hole ED is particularly enjoyable for divers of all levels, though navigating the canyon requires basic buoyancy control. Freedivers will also appreciate the sheltered canyon and vibrant coral gardens within accessible depths. Best time to visit is typically spring and autumn for comfortable surface temperatures.
