This dive site, El Quadim Nord, is the northern section of the house reef situated directly within the bay of the Mövenpick Hotel El Quseir, Egypt. With a remarkable 5000-year history, it once served as the oldest trading port of Egypt, evidenced by ancient amphorae and anchors scattered across the seabed, offering a unique blend of historical discovery and natural beauty. The reef is generally easy to navigate, with a gentle slope ideal for relaxed dives.
Divers can expect an extraordinary array of marine life, including majestic whale sharks, playful dolphins, and juvenile whitetip reef sharks. Larger inhabitants also include elegant eagle rays and green sea turtles. For macro enthusiasts, the reef is a treasure trove, home to elusive seahorses, camouflaged frogfish, distinct winged rockfish, delicate ghost pipefish, fascinating carpet crocodile fish, and stonefish.
The best time to visit for potential whale shark sightings might be during their migratory seasons, though the site offers excellent diving year-round for its resident species. This site is particularly suitable for photographers, offering both wide-angle opportunities with larger pelagics and abundant macro subjects. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find this shallow, vibrant house reef highly rewarding due to its easy access and rich biodiversity.
