This dive site, El Makluf ED, is a popular shore dive located in Egypt, accessed via a minibus. Divers begin their adventure by navigating through a distinctive hole in the reef top, leading into an intriguing canyon. Underwater, the site is characterized by several impressive coral blocks that ascend from depths of 10m to 40m, reaching close to the surface, creating varied topography for exploration.
The site boasts a vibrant marine ecosystem. Divers can encounter snappers, hatchetfish, scorpionfish, turtles, crocodile fish, wrasses, crabs, and nudibranchs. The southern part of the site features a particularly beautiful coral garden, teeming with numerous table corals, offering a rich display of Red Sea biodiversity.
While there is no specific historical information, the best time to visit El Makluf ED, like much of the Red Sea, is generally during spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) for optimal weather and water temperatures. The maximum depth of 22 meters makes it suitable for recreational divers, and the shallower reef top and coral garden are excellent for snorkelers and freedivers, who can explore the vibrant marine life close to the surface.
