This dive site, El Fanadir South, is located about an hour south of El Gouna in the Egyptian Red Sea. It features a vibrant wall teeming with marine life, which then leads to a wide plateau approximately 20 meters across. The plateau offers several pinnacles for exploration before dropping off to depths exceeding 70 meters. Navigation typically involves exploring the wall and plateau, staying within recreational limits.
The wall and plateau are particularly rich in smaller marine creatures. Divers can expect to encounter numerous moray eels, scorpion fish, nudibranchs, lion fish, stonefish, starfish, and octopuses. Occasionally, lucky divers might spot a well-camouflaged frog fish. Off in the blue, there's a chance to see larger pelagics like eagle rays.
The site is suitable for diving year-round, with excellent conditions generally prevailing in the Red Sea. Its varied topography and abundant marine life make it a highlight for both macro enthusiasts and those enjoying reef exploration. Freedivers can enjoy the shallower wall and plateau sections, while divers should be mindful of the significant drop-off when exploring the edge of the plateau.
