This dive site is the Dunraven wreck, located a bit further out from the popular daily dive sites around Sharm el Sheikh, on Shaab Mahmoud. The wreck lies upside-down on the seabed, creating an interesting and sheltered environment for divers to explore. Navigation is straightforward, following the wreck's structure and exploring its various rooms and compartments. The history of the Dunraven, a steamer that wrecked in the Red Sea, adds a unique element to the dive.
The wreck itself provides habitat for a variety of marine life, including moray eels of various species, nudibranchs, and vanikoro sweepers. The surrounding reef is abundant with porites coral, home to stonefish, which requires careful observation. Other fish and invertebrates common in the area can also be seen around the wreck and reef.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (April to October) when the visibility is at its best, the water is warmest, and there are fewer currents. Although the currents are usually moderate, divers should be aware of them and dive with an experienced guide. This dive is not suited for snorkelers or freedivers due to its depth and the wreck's orientation.
