This dive site, known as Shabrur Siyoul or Blind Reef, is a relatively shallow reef located a considerable distance from Elgouna. The reef itself is partially exposed, with coral formations just barely submerged. The site offers two distinct dive areas: the more popular south plateau, featuring vibrant soft coral at around 20 meters, and the north wall, ideal for drift diving experiences. Navigation is generally straightforward, with clear distinctions between the plateau and the wall.
The marine life is diverse and abundant. Divers can expect to encounter a variety of fish species including moray eels, scorpionfish, stonefish, pufferfish, parrotfish, lionfish, sergeant fish, and octopus. The reef also hosts beautiful table and soft corals, providing a colorful backdrop for underwater exploration.
The best time to visit Blind Reef is during the warmer months, typically from April to October, when the water temperature is most pleasant and visibility is generally at its best. The calmer conditions during these months also make it more suitable for less experienced divers and snorkelers. While freediving is possible in the shallower areas, care should always be taken to respect depth limits and personal capabilities.
