About this dive site

This dive site, Beacon Rock, is a prominent coral outcrop located approximately 7 miles west of the Ras Mohammed National Park, marking the southern tip of Sha'ab Mahmoud's large lagoon. Named after a metal beacon on its southernmost point, it is famously home to the wreck of the SS Dunraven, a Victorian steamship that sank in 1876. Divers can explore the vibrant reef formations and the accessible wreck, navigating around the coral structure to discover its hidden gems.

The marine life at Beacon Rock is diverse and abundant, featuring schools of yellow saddle goatfish, glassfish, and impressive giant moray eels. Macro enthusiasts will delight in spotting stonefish, scorpion fish, Red Sea Lionfish, and crocodile fish. The healthy reef is adorned with huge sea fans and robust Porites coral heads, creating a visually stunning underwater landscape.

Beacon Rock offers excellent diving conditions year-round with warm waters and generally superb visibility. Its maximum depth of 18 meters and average depth of 9 meters make it an ideal location for divers of all experience levels, including beginners. Freedivers will also find the site highly rewarding due to its shallow depths and rich marine biodiversity, allowing for extended explorations.
