This dive site, Abu Sawatyr, is located in a bay offering a sandy entry point, making it relatively accessible. The sandy bottom slopes gently down to a depth of 40 meters, but the typical dive remains shallower. Coral gardens are found on either side of the bay, flourishing around 30 meters. A rope is helpful for entering and exiting the dive site due to the currents, this makes it a good choice for intermediate divers.
The marine life at Abu Sawatyr is diverse and exciting. Divers can encounter large moray eels and Napoleon wrasse. With a little luck, larger pelagic species like dolphins, eagle rays, and even sharks can grace your dive. The shallower areas boast plentiful smaller fish and invertebrate life, contributing to the rich biodiversity of the site.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months, typically from April to October, when water temperatures are pleasant and visibility is generally at its best. For freedivers, the gently sloping sandy entry provides a comfortable and safe entry point. Divers should pay attention to the currents, especially when entering and exiting, and using the provided rope is recommended. Be aware of depth, and always dive within your limits.
