This dive site, Escorpiones, is located on a shallow ledge off the coast of Costa Rica. Divers can explore rocky features that provide shelter for numerous small creatures, as well as sandy patches where larger marine life congregates. The site is easily navigable, moving between these distinct habitats, and provides a relaxed diving experience due to its accessible depths.
The diverse marine ecosystem here offers encounters with white tip reef sharks and eagle rays in the sandy areas close to the rocks. Among the rocks, divers can spot octopus, various nudibranch species, moray eels, and well-camouflaged scorpionfish. The 'ton of small critters' suggests a rich macro environment for detailed exploration.
The best time to visit Escorpiones is generally during Costa Rica's dry season (December to April) when visibility is often at its best. This site is excellent for beginner divers due to its shallow nature and offers fantastic opportunities for macro photography. Freedivers and snorkelers will also enjoy the accessible depths and abundant marine life.
