This dive site, Turtle Alley, is a shallow and vibrant location on the North West End of Cayman Brac. Divers navigate a colorful miniwall that begins at approximately 30 feet (9 meters), descending to patches of coral and silver sand between 55 to 65 feet (17 to 20 meters). The site is relatively easy to navigate, following the contours of the miniwall, offering a relaxed and enjoyable experience for divers of all levels.
Turtle Alley is renowned for its diverse marine life, living up to its name with frequent sightings of turtles, predominantly hawksbill and green turtles. During specific times of the year, lucky divers might also encounter loggerhead turtles. Beyond the prominent turtles, the reef hosts numerous other fish species and invertebrates, thriving amongst the vibrant coral patches and sandy seafloor.
The best time to visit Turtle Alley for loggerhead turtle encounters is seasonal, generally aligning with their nesting or feeding periods. This site is excellent for both wide-angle photography, focusing on the miniwall and resident turtles, and macro photography, capturing the smaller reef inhabitants. Its shallow nature makes it particularly suitable for both snorkeling and freediving, offering beautiful sights close to the surface.
