This dive site, known as Fisheries, is the most westerly on the north side of Cayman Brac. Divers typically start from a mooring pin, then follow a distinct mini wall that guides them past two sandy chutes. The highlight of the site is a large pillar coral formation, with its top situated at approximately 9 meters (30ft) and the surrounding reef floor at 15 meters (50ft). There is no specific history or story provided for the naming of 'Fisheries', but it suggests a site historically frequented for fishing or abundant marine life.
The vibrant reef ecosystem at Fisheries is home to a variety of marine animals. Divers can expect to encounter lobsters hiding in crevices, stingrays gliding over the sandy bottom, and an array of typical Caribbean reef fish. Common sightings include various species of snapper, grouper, and sergeant majors, contributing to a lively and colorful underwater experience. The presence of the large pillar coral also indicates a healthy hard coral environment supporting diverse life.
Cayman Brac offers excellent diving year-round, with the best conditions generally from April to November when the seas are calmer. Fisheries is a fantastic site for both beginner divers due to its manageable depths and clear navigation, and for experienced divers looking for relaxed exploration. Freedivers and snorkelers will also enjoy the shallower sections, particularly around the magnificent pillar coral, which provides an accessible and rewarding experience. Early mornings often provide the best light and marine activity.
