This dive site is located directly on the north shore of Lake Weissensee, conveniently situated in front of the Haus Sonnleiten vacation apartments and adjacent to the Yachtdiver diving center. It offers relaxed diving conditions, making it an excellent spot for training and leisure dives. The bottom topography is characterized by lush aquatic vegetation, interspersed with areas of light sediment, creating an interesting, albeit shallow, underwater landscape for exploration. Navigation is straightforward given the limited depth and shore access.
While lacking large pelagic marine life, the dive site is home to typical freshwater inhabitants. Divers can expect to encounter various species of freshwater fish such as perch, pike, and trout, which often hide among the abundant aquatic plants. The dense vegetation itself forms a vibrant ecosystem, supporting a variety of smaller creatures and providing excellent opportunities for macro photography.
The Weißensee dive site is suitable for year-round diving, though warmer months offer more comfortable water temperatures. It is highly recommended for beginners due to its shallow depth and calm environment. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find the site appealing, with plenty to explore near the surface. Don't forget proper thermal protection as lake waters can be cold, even in summer.
