This dive site, Latitude Rock, is a fascinating isolated rock reef feature known for its macro photography opportunities and the frequent presence of Grey Nurse Sharks. The reef itself is an 8-meter tall, sloping rock formation oriented east-west, situated on a sandy seabed. Divers can explore along either the northern or southern sides from any anchor point. The northern face presents a substantial wall descending to gutters, overhangs, cracks, and scattered rocks – these sheltered areas are often home to Grey Nurse Sharks, port Jackson sharks, wobbegong sharks, fiddler rays, shovelnose rays, and sea turtles. Careful observation is advised when diving in the gutters to respect the shark population. Eastern blue gropers are commonly seen patrolling the site. Water temperatures range from 16 to 24 degrees Celsius, while visibility typically ranges between 7 and 25 meters. It’s important to be aware of other boats navigating the area.
