This dive site, Arashi (Wreck), is situated off the coast of Aruba and is an excellent entry point for novice divers. It features the scattered remnants of a Lockheed Lodestar airplane, resting at a maximum depth of 15 meters, with parts visible as shallow as 35 feet (approximately 10-11 meters). The wreck pieces are interspersed among vibrant coral formations, providing an engaging underwater landscape that is easy to navigate due to the shallow average depth of 7 meters.
The site is teeming with typical Caribbean marine life. Divers can expect to encounter various fish species such as snapper, angelfish, grunts, parrotfish, and grouper. Larger pelagics include nurse and reef sharks, possible eagle rays, and several species of turtles and stingrays. The coral formations act as a vibrant habitat, enhancing the biodiversity of the reef.
Arashi is suitable for diving year-round, with the Caribbean offering generally excellent conditions. The best time to visit is typically outside of hurricane season (June-November), though Aruba is less prone to direct hits. It's an ideal spot for both scuba divers and freedivers due to its shallow depths and calm conditions. Snorkelers will also find the site highly rewarding, easily observing the wreck and marine life from the surface.
