This dive site features the famous Willy T, a former floating bar and restaurant, which was grounded by Hurricane Irma in 2017. It was subsequently cleaned, decorated by the non-profit group Beyond the Reef, and intentionally sunk in August 2019 to create a unique and interactive dive site. Divers can explore the wreck, walk the plank, and even pose for photos at the underwater bar, watching out for playful 'pirates' and experiencing a truly unique underwater environment.
Abundant marine life thrives around the wreck and in the adjacent coral canyon. Divers can expect to see schools of yellowtail snapper and creole wrasse swimming gracefully above the wreck. In the sandy areas surrounding the structure, keen eyes may spot flounders, small crabs, and shrimp, while the nearby coral canyon teems with a variety of colorful reef fish.
The Willy T wreck is suitable for diving year-round, offering excellent conditions for both scuba divers and freedivers due to its relatively shallow average depth. It's an ideal spot for underwater photography, particularly for wide-angle shots of the wreck and close-ups of macro life. Its interactive elements make it a memorable experience for all skill levels, especially beginners.
