About this dive site

This dive site, Kuilima Cove (also known as Turtle Bay), is a small, sheltered bay located on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Its shallow nature, with a maximum depth of just 2 meters, makes it an exceptionally easy and safe spot for underwater exploration. The cove is well-protected from ocean waves, offering calm conditions ideal for beginners and casual observers. Navigation is straightforward due to the limited depth and clear confines of the bay.

Despite a seabed primarily consisting of sand, rock, and small coral patches, the area is renowned for its marine life. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter green sea turtles frequently, along with a good variety of fish species inhabiting the shallow waters. While not a vibrant coral garden, the existing patches provide some structure for smaller reef inhabitants.

The best time to visit Turtle Bay for diving and snorkeling is generally year-round, as its sheltered nature protects it from seasonal surf often found on Oahu's North Shore. It's particularly recommended for beginners, families, and those looking for an easy, relaxing encounter with Hawaii's marine life, especially the famous green turtles. Freedivers will find it suitable for breath-hold practice, though the extreme shallowness means dives will be very brief.
